Residence for Malushte brothers, Ratnagiri

2019
can spaces help strengthen and nurture traditional family values ?
I realised that though the Malushte brothers wanted to shift from their present cramped single house into their own respective new, spacious houses, they still desired that togetherness.
From this understanding, evolved the basic conceptual form, which had two residences with identical floor plans (but with slightly different facades) and a wonderful, vibrant, interactive central common space between them. The different facades happened as one brother – Nilesh was given a living room with double height whereas Rajan was given a living room with a flat slab and terrace garden on top. A central lawn mound with its retaining wall also lent privacy from outside to the central common space with the swimming pool between the two houses.
The spaces in these two houses respect the individuality of its members as well as their need to be together.
