Everyone faces this dilemma of what to do immediately after graduation. The five hectic years of study do not give the necessary time to think and question one’s values and course of action in life.
In order to do so, we need time & silence for ourselves to unlearn the stereotyped, conformist social ways. This fellowship gives you this time and silence to pause, unwind and unlearn; to question your life & work values, establish your priorities in life and translate them into your work… into whatever you do
Thus, this fellowship was started in 2017 for one fresh graduate architect from CEPT (as Ar. Shirish Beri studied there) and two from Kolhapur colleges (as that is his home town). Each fellow was paid between Rs. 1 lakh and 1.4 lakhs in 3 instalments.
This money took care of their expenses for 6 to 8 months and gave them the time to introspect, read, write, sketch, travel and interact with Shirish Beri. They could do anything except architecture – no practice, job or teaching. They would need to submit some deliverable at the end of the fellowship.
Applications from aspiring candidates from any architecture college in India would be sought. 10 deserving students would be selected on the basis on their applications (merit, interests in life, S.O.P., income etc) and maybe interviews.
The fellowship period would be three and half months, during which the fellows cannot engage themselves in any kind of architectural practice, job or teaching.
The fellowship would start with one 6 days’ residential workshop with Ar. Shirish Beri and other resource persons in the pristine environment of Andur lake 40 km from Kolhapur.
This will be followed by a 2 months break, when the fellows will introspect on what they have assimilated in the 6 days workshop and submit their mid fellowship submission of their understanding online after 1 month. They can travel, read, write, talk to Ar. Beri, interact with different people, add on their own findings and understandings and present them before the group at the beginning of the 2nd session.
The fellows would return for another 6 days’ residential workshop with Ar. Beri and others, this time in Kolhapur city.
The final month would be allotted after this 2nd workshop for the fellows to compile their tangible and intangible learnings in a specified guideline format and present them before the group and several other architecture students in Kolhapur .. and maybe live on the net. A copy of this final summation of the fellowship would be given to Ar. Shirish Beri.
Note – Use of mobile phones would be restricted to only a stipulated 30 to 45 minutes everyday.
Intrested Fresh Architectural graduates (only those who are graduated in 2024)
