This building with four levels of book stacks seen at a time, expresses itself as a repository of knowledge. The double height reading halls which have open air reading area extensions are conducive to serious study.

The school campus creates an environment in which all activities and architecture would contribute to the learning process, thus various activities of learning, living are not separated but interconnected.

This simple, non conspicuous design with internal playful landscaped courtyards and terraces is easily accepted and appreciated by it’s client – the slum children. The existing trees on the site contribute to the creation of a more humane environment.

The various departments housed around courtyards in two wings share the common academic as well as administrative functions housed in the central wings. The terraces, corridor lobbies and courtyards become active interaction spaces.

The design situated on a hill slope tries to unify the various diverse activities to create a wholistic learning environment, also taking into consideration the future expansions possible in various activities.

This modular rectilinear design, recognizes the individual needs of both Dental college and Hospital, their areas of interaction, segregation, circulation and transition. It brings both these interdependent functions together, creating a good learning environment which would also act as a catalyst in the healing process.

Located on a long narrow site, this building bridges over a thoroughfare in the centre, which connects the other functions at the back. The planning is very compact and functional.

This building plan and ambience is the expression of the spirit and philosophy of Ayurveda and of its Indian context. The symbolically landscaped courtyards also bring in plenty of light and ventilation.

This residential campus (for 11th & 12th class boys and girls) designed on a sloping site attempts to strike a healthy balance between free interaction and disciplined segregation. It also brings in a sense of playfulness and spontaneity.

Situated at the foot of the beautiful Chamundi hill and responding to the sloping contours, this multi level complex creates multiple, lively, interesting interaction possibilities to enhance learning in management studies. The maximum use of natural stone and slate lends it a timeless quality.

Situated next to the 500 bedded teaching hospital, this medical college building follows a similar architectural vocabulary but grows taller due to limited site dimensions. Hostel rooms with independent entrance occupy the upper 5 floors.

This dental college and hospital is a compact building that allows easy, quick movement of patients, as well as the efficient functioning of clinics. Appropriate separation and connectivity between the two are maintained.

Interesting interactive and learning spaces are created while respecting the sloping contours at the base of a hill. Landscaped courtyards & special extension yards express the agricultural functions.

Set on a cascading abandoned quarry site, this school has landscaped courts between the wings and a large stepped amphitheatre in the centre.

This complex is designed for the special needs of the leprosy patients with very useful landscaped spaces between the buildings. This low rise complex has a very intimate humane scale.

The design creates a well lit and ventilated environment, incorporating natural off white stone, plants and landscaping to bring about a colorful, bright, soothing and reposeful mood.

In spite of it’s large 40,000 sq.m area, this building creates direct convenient linkages between various functions. It helps in the healing process with it’s healthy green courtyards, natural light and ventilation.

The 500 bedded hospital is located in an urban concrete surrounding of Navi Mumbai. The main design parameters were providing a healthy atmosphere, lots of natural light and ventilation, nature and to provide good, direct, short circulation linkages between various easy to locate functions.

8. 2006 - KOLHAPUR INSTITUTE OF ORTHOPEDICS & TRAUMA, KOLHAPUR

The context of the 1600 sq. m. site in a narrow lane of the city prompted us to recess the building and lend some of our space to the narrow urban lane which facilitates parking, greenery and a good view. The interiors also have the desired transparency, green and flow of space.

The constraints imparted on the design by the tight 270sq.m. site on a congested city road were converted into design possibilities to create a well lit, green, ventilated building with a distinct character.

This compact yet spacious building is part of the SDM ayurveda hospital campus. The central landscaped court with the meditation hall embodies the ambience desired in a wellness centre.

Built as an extension to the main teaching hospital, this building is more compact and tall with beautiful landscaped courts. Each floor houses one super specialty OPD and in patients with its other functions.

This building integrates itself in the urban fabric by creating a walkway through it, thus linking the two roads. The form recognizes it’s relation with the busy traffic island.

The design expresses a sense of unity – unity of space – rather than segregation and compartmentalization. All efforts are directed in creating an environment that would act as a catalyst towards the better functioning of research, repository and training activities.

These research labs with stringent functional and service requirement not only create an atmosphere conducive for research but also become symbolic expression of D.N.A. form.

This project explores the aesthetic, poetic and the immeasurable aspect of computational mathematics, which is generally considered prosaic and logically measurable. The geomorphic design with the bamboo pergola, existing trees and terrace trelliswork becomes more energy efficient.

4. 2005 - LABORATORY FOR CONSERVATION OF ENDANGERED SPECIES, [LaCONES], , HYDERABAD

This unique laboratory function has intentionally been located around huge 6m to 11m high natural rocks in such a way that this building almost becomes a non building. The handling of the organic form, natural topography, materials, and the ambiance tries to improve the functionality and efficacy of the laboratory spaces also.

Main entrance with the central administration, library, auditorium and more laboratories form this phase II building. It is connected to phase I by covered bridges with a landscaped court in between.

The brief was to create a V.I.P guest house which could also act as a house for the founder. The house has a sculpturesque form, with a playful flow in the inner spaces. It is a sculpture to love in.

This building on a sort of triangular site sets back with terraces to respond to the tree lined avenue. A central cut out on three levels visually connects the activities on all these floors.

The house is built as an expression of ‘the joy of living’. It brings the Sapre family together, with the fluid spaces created inside which merge with the outside. The landscaped earth beam affords privacy from the road.
