Zapurza – museum of art and culture, at Kudje near Pune

Can the spatial quality of this complex help in the better appreciation of art and culture ?
This project was initiated to display the client’s collection of art– paintings and sculptures, artefacts, textiles and jewellery, share this with the public at large and to enhance their awareness and sensitivity towards art and culture.
The linear design of this museum of art and culture respects the shape and the natural topography of the site to gently cascade down its slope, while creating additional functional spaces below and a vibrant central interactive plaza. The different levels created thus, house different museum functions as well as the auditorium and the café. The beautiful distant views of the Khadakvasala lake, the Sinhgad fort, existing trees and the skies became the major form generartors.
The stones and very large boulders obtained during the excavation were used in construction for soling, filling, as stone masonry and in landscaping…lending an organic quality to the built form.
