Can the same creativity, equity and openness be expressed if the ambience is changed from a vibrant warm to a mature cool ?
After deciding to move out of ‘Gumpha’, our large old ancestral bungalow to our small new eco friendly house “Laya”, on the outskirts of Kolhapur, shifting my studio also to a nearby location became more desirable and necessary.
We found a suitable space on the 5th floor with a small terrace and a good view of the university greens. This works well as my personal studio with my secretary, driver cum clerk and one or two trainees. Two large glazed doors help connect the studio with the terrace garden.
All the furniture in this office is not kept there, but grows from the floor or carpet, carrying with it some flooring tile or the carpet. When the glass conference table is removed, the space becomes big enough to accommodate 25 -30 people for a presentation or movie screening.
It is one single open equitable space with good natural light and no air conditioning.
