S.D.M. College of Ayurveda at Hassan

2017
Can an educational building contribute to the learning process ?
Since 1999, the ayurveda hospital and college were functioning pretty well in the same building. Soon, the hospital started falling short of space and beds. Thus, in 2013, it was decided to shift the college functions out into a new building and use that vacated space to house the additional hospital beds and functions.
With the paucity of open space on site, it was decided to design &construct a very compact six storeyed building with only one central landscaped courtyard. All the departments are placed around this courtyard. Special widened passages and terraces are provided around it at each floor to house the large variety of herbal plants. They add beauty and enhance ayurvedic learning at the same time. Special places have been created in these passages for seating, interacting and display.
The faculty and students enjoy teaching and learning in these spaces that are very close to nature.
